Twin films: Malawian visitors discuss improvements in groundnut quality and Fairtrade

Twin has commissioned two new short films, featuring interviews with visitors from Malawi during Fairtrade Fortnight 2012. In the first Kingsley from NASFAM and groundnut farmer Rosemary talk about protecting against aflatoxin and the importance of Twin’s new Afri-Nut facility in Malawi.

Bukonzo Joint’s coffee excellence recognised

Twin’s partner, the Bukonzo Joint coffee cooperative in Uganda, earned an impressive two places in the country’s Arabica Top 5 at the 2012 Taste of Harvest Coffee Competition in Kampala last week.

35 Uganda Arabica coffees were submitted from different regions of the country, and were roasted, cupped and scored using the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) internationally-recognised cupping protocol.

Two Bukonzo Joint coffees were rated in the Top 5, coming third and fifth with 84.21 and 83.89 respectively.

Twin welcomes new member Cenfrocafe, Peru

Twin is pleased to welcome Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples - Cenfrocafe – as our newest member. The Peruvian coffee cooperative was unanimously elected as a member at our recent AGM.

Twin Trading has been trading with Cenfrocafe for over two years. The cooperative has been operating since 1999 in the districts to Tabaconas and San Ignacio in Peru. It became Fairtrade certified in 2007 and has been exporting Fairtrade coffee to USA and Europe since.

Twin appoints new Head of Producer Partnership Programme

Twin is delighted to welcome Veronica Broomes as the new Head of the Producer Partnership Programme.

Veronica has a PhD in plant sciences, a strong practical experience and theoretical knowledge of climate change issues and experience in helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint. She also has good relationships with a number of donors including multilateral agencies and has also recently been on a panel of assessors for the Big Lottery Fund. She has worked in Europe, Africa and Latin America.

Veronica will join Twin on Monday 12th December.

Twin Chair and Trustee appointments

Following Twin's AGM on 6 December, we can announce that Michael Ward has been elected as the new Chair of Twin. Jonathan Pockson and Carol Wills have also been re-elected as Board Trustees. And we are very pleased to welcome newcomer Kay Armstrong to the Board.

Michael Ward has extensive experience in senior leadership roles in regeneration and economic development at local, national and regional levels as well as experience working with the private sector. Michael was also instrumental in establishing Twin in 1985.
