Following an inspiring panel presentation that took place in London on Wednesday 28th March with the involvement of approximately 50 attendees including some of our buyers, partners and friends from the industry, our latest report on Smallholders Farmers and Specialty Markets was released to the public.

In this report we want to share Twin's experience of working with smallholder farmers in remote regions of Africa to enable them to access and participate in specialty and other premium markets.  

We had four very special panelists on the evening of the discussion;

  • Maire Reier – Twin’s Q Grader and Trader

Maire’s is responsible for buying certified green coffee and selling to buyers in UK, mainland Europe, Asia and the USA. She is a qualified Q Grader and has a background in specialty coffee, working in specialty coffee shops for over ten years - six of these were spent at Monmouth Coffee.

  • John Steel – CEO of Cafédirect a

Cafédirect is a pioneering fair trade company that champions the work & passion of smallholder growers, delivering great tasting hot drinks to improve livelihoods, whilst pioneering new better ways of doing business. John joined Café Direct as their CEO in 2012 and brought with him a wealth of experience from the food and drink sector including working with Loyd Grossman to build his cooking sauce business and as MD, then Chairman, of The Cornish Sea Salt Company.   • Grant Lang – Founder and CEO of Mozzo Coffee

In 2005 Grant Lang created the world’s first solar and wind powered art covered coffee cart after buying an Indian tuk tuk with a student loan cheque. It was from this small yet remarkable cart that the Mozzo Coffee adventure began. Their journey so far has been incredible, from innovative cart to responsible roaster and coffee partner to some of the UKs leading hospitality venues. Throughout, their purpose remains the same, to source and share remarkable coffee experiences whilst building a positive impact company.

  • Elmer Reynaldo Peña Silva – Commercial Manager of Cenfrocafe and also a Trustee of Twin

As Commercial Manager of Cenfrocafé cooperative in Peru, an organisation of more than 1,900 coffee farming families, Elmer is in charge of price risk management, buying and selling. He has extensive experience in growing coffee crops and has worked at Cenfrocafé for the last 12 years, Elmer is proud to represent an organisation with a solid reputation for sustainable development on four levels: economic, institutional, environmental and social
