We have all seen on the world news bulletins that there have been serious floods and landslides around the famous tourist site as well as key coffee growing area of Machu Picchu in central Peru. We have heard that fortunately the damage is not as serious as in the 1998 catastrophic storms and landslides.
However many roads and bridges have been damaged. Access to Quillabamba has been cut. This is a major coffee town and the home of Cocla. The heavy rainfall has come at a bad time for the coffee harvest since this will be starting soon. The likely consequence is a fall in production forecast for this area.
Todos hemos visto en las noticias que han habido serias inundaciones y derrumbes en la área de las famosas ruinas de Macchu Picchu en el Perú, área que es clave para el cultivo del café. Entendemos sin embargo que afortunadamente el daño no ha sido tan serio como el causado por las lluvias del año 1998.
Sin embargo, muchos caminos y puentes han sido dañados y el acceso a Quillabamba ha sido cortado. Esta es un pueblo clave para la producción del café y donde esta situado COCLA. Las fuertes lluvias han venido justo a tiempo de época de cosecha del café y anticipamos que a consecuencia la productividad del área sea afectada.
