Twin successfully secured £464,994 to continue working with Congolese coffee producers to access international markets. These resources will fund a project which will introduce micro washing stations at society level and establish the first coffee laboratory in Eastern DRC. The two-year project will start in July 2012 and will be implemented in partnership with Sainsbury’s and Finlays.

Twin has commissioned two new short films, featuring interviews with visitors from Malawi during Fairtrade Fortnight 2012. In the first Kingsley from NASFAM and groundnut farmer Rosemary talk about protecting against aflatoxin and the importance of Twin’s new Afri-Nut facility in Malawi.

The Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA) of which Twin is a member has just announced that it will receive $19.8 million in new funding from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and $1.6 million from the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID) to support its work.

Today marks the launch of the International Year of Cooperatives and there is much to reflect on and celebrate.

For 26 years Twin has proudly worked with democratically organised smallholders to increase their power in value chains and to create and capture value for farmers in the global south. Most of these farmers are organised in formal cooperative structures.
